About Self-Compassion
Self-compassion is a training and offers skills that anyone can learn. While many of us would be quick to complain about being treated harshly by a loved one, friend or colleague, the reality is, if we listen to our internal self-talk, that all too often we treat ourselves in ways we would never treat anyone else. Research shows that motivating our self with kindness rather than criticism increases happiness and reduces anxiety and depression. Self-compassion offers us the resilience more effectively to manage challenging life experiences such as stress and physical pain; it also offers us the resources to engage more creatively in our relationships be they with self or others.
Overall, self-compassion has a strong positive influence on how we experience life.
About the workshop
This workshop will offer simple tools for responding in a kind way when we experience painful emotions. You will be introduced to practices that will help you to stop being so hard on yourself, handle difficult emotions with greater ease and motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism. The workshop will be a combination of short talks, discussion, meditation and experiential exercises for which you will need to bring pen and paper.
