About the Mindfulness for Teenagers Course
The teenage years are a time of major transition: a time when young people are faced with developing a sense of an independent self, figuring out what they want to do with their life, all the while feeling pressure to conform to their peer group. It is also a time when rates of anxiety and depression are more likely to increase. As teenage years are also a time of rebellion against parents and authority in general, teenagers can easily find themselves feeling very alone in facing such challenges.
The practice of mindfulness has proved to be of enormous lasting benefit in helping teenagers navigate these important years when so much is changing, both in the adolescent brain and in the world around them.
This 4-week course will resource teenagers to meet the rough and tumble of these years with greater resilience, calm and clarity. Mindfulness will help them to be fully present with what is happening moment by moment without being caught in dramatic storylines. It has also been shown to have helpful effects on sleep, concentration and attention; to help with the holding of big emotions, including anger and anxiety when they arise; and to help in the building of connections in the growing brain.
Weekly content includes:
- mindful movement
- mindful breathing
- exercises to help with big emotions
- developing compassion and kindness towards ourselves and others
- activities to integrate left and right brain
